3 REASONS THE BAMD CLASSROOM IS A PARENT FREE ZONE

Did you know that BAMD is a “parent / guardian free zone”?

This expectation has been around since the beginning of BAMD for a number of reasons. 🤝

Not only does it allow our students the opportunity to embody independence but it also supports our teachers to try new things, make mistakes and become the leader of the space without prying eyes.

We know families love to observe but we hold off on that until our end of year showcase! It’s really important to us at BAMD that teachers and students are creating solutions together without the need for parent intervention.

So if you’re a teacher or dance studio that allows families to watch we invite you to consider why?

If it’s an intentional choice - fabulous.

But if it’s a choice that comes with obligation or pressure we challenge you to make a decision that feels aligned for you.

Here are our 3 main reasons the BAMD classroom is a parent free zone:

  1. So the BAMD students have an opportunity to experience and embody independence

  2. So that our teachers can learn and grow as educators without pressure

  3. So that the expectation is that BAMD is a program where parents / families can take a step back so the teachers and students can create solutions together

Want support in navigating parent/guardian conversations, challenges and boundaries when facilitating dance classes for people with disabilities?
