YOU ARE THE EXPERT IN DANCE & DISABILITY
Want to know the biggest barrier to more inclusive classes for students with disabilities?…. CONFIDENT TEACHERS. Teachers who are willing to give it a go without needing to be fully “ready”. Teachers who understand that learning about disability isn’t done through reading textbooks but rather being in the studio. Teachers who are ready to explore their unconscious bias in order to be in SERVICE and create safe dance spaces for all. It’s not that there aren’t families and students waiting to be included in your space - it’s that too many teachers are waiting to have it all figured out.
We are here to tell you… FORGET THAT! Come join the conversation and learn!
Whether or not you feel it, believe it or embody it, YOU are the expert in dance and disability as soon as you walk into the studio.
This is not meant to put added pressure on you to be experienced and know everything, however it’s important to remember that the families, caregivers and support workers of your students with disabilities are not dance teachers.
You are!
And regardless of how much experience you have teaching dancers with disabilities, you DO have experience teaching dance. So lean on that. Use that. Rely on that. It doesn’t need to be any different.
Parents are looking for certainty. They’re looking for leadership and someone to say “hey, I’ve got this. And if I don’t have the answer, I know where to find it” (ie. BAMD 😉)
So if you’re a teacher or dance studio looking to be supported on this journey to become more safe, inclusive and accessible for dancers with disabilities; book your 3 hour INTRO to dance and disability teacher training workshop with us today!
