HOW TO CREATE SAFE LESSON PLANS

Why is it that we get hyper focused on what our students with disabilities need that we forget about US as the teachers?!

Aren’t YOU a dancer?

Don’t YOU know how it feels when your dance space is safe?

Isn’t it true that you can tap into your OWN needs to decipher what dancers with disabilities might need?

Because aren’t we all the same….

If your answer to that ^^ is no, my question is why not?

Yes - dancers with disabilities may need a lesson plan that has structure, time for patience, repetition, inquiry (all the things) but wouldn’t YOU?

Here’s the thing about teaching people with disabilities- we get too focused on the DISABILITY and not on the bigger picture.

At BAMD our bigger picture is creating an environment for people with disabilities to be self inquisitive, challenged, safe, explorative, independent and responsible.

Our lesson plans simply reflect this :) Do yours?
