TEACHERS, ARE YOU TAKING ON TOO MUCH RESPONSIBILITY?
When you are embodying more trust as the leader you open yourself up to innovation!
Teachers, are you taking on TOO much responsibility?
Is there a PART of you (even if it’s teeny tiny) that wants your students to have so much fun that you’ll even overstep your own boundaries to ensure it?
Are you worried that if you’re students don’t have a good time that it’s all on you?
Here’s the thing - if you are giving EVERYTHING then what message is it sending to your students?
If you are doing all the planning, communicating, organising, teaching AND you also are taking on the responsibility of your students having a good time - then what is left for them to do??
When it comes to people with disabilities we see teachers falling into the trap of “saviour” or “hero”.
And we know it comes from a caring place. But it’s also positioning them as “victims” because you’re not giving them the opportunity to be responsible for their own enjoyment, fulfilment and engagement.
And you know what - sometimes fulfilment comes from failing and making mistakes. It’s in those very moments when something feels hard or uncomfortable that we rise above it and feel accomplished when we do.
But if you never give your students the opportunity to make mistakes then they’ll never know what it feels like to be accomplished.
STOP taking on too much responsibility - just be a GREAT dance teacher :)
