Having people with disabilities in your studio is NOT a novelty

Having people with Disabilities in your studio is NOT a NOVELTY. It’s not like having a side of fries with you main meal, it’s not an ‘EXTRA’.

Now let me preface by saying that we don’t know what we don’t know; AND as leaders it’s our responsibility to get curious and ask questions - choose courage over comfort. I get asked by studios all the time to help train their teachers to ‘include’ people with Disabilities in their classes.

My response:
Is the Leader of the organization willing to go first? And by that, I mean is the Leader willing to get really curious about their bias, their position and their WHY or are they simply interested in training their teachers to make the studio more money?

It starts from the top and trickles allllll the way down.

Business growth should be a by-product of the inclusion, accessibility and safety of a studio, not the main goal. Simply giving the teachers some ‘tips and tricks’ on how to teach people with Disabilities is a bandaid if we’re not really unpacking how we really see and feel about a particular group of people.

So let me ask you - Studio Leaders:

- Do you want more Inclusion and Accessibility in your studios?

- Do you want business growth?

- Do you want more equipped teachers?

AND the real question is - Are you willing to do the work?

I am now open for coaching! Get in touch if this blog post hit home for you :)
